Joanna Helfer graduated with a BA(Hons) in Time Based Art from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in 2009. She works across several disciplines including printmaking, photography, installation, performance and video. In 2010 she founded Tin Roof , an artist run collective and studio provider in Dundee, where she still acts as chairperson and has a studio.

Joanna’s practice revolves around journeys and walking, drawing inspiration from artists such as Francis Alÿs and Janet Cardiff, and the Situationist movement. She is interested in the role of art as contemporary ritual and an agent of change within communities.

Joanna also works as a Youth Arts Worker for a Dundee Charity, Hot Chocolate Trust ,where she is responsible for running the creative programme. She is passionate about using creativity and the arts to help bring about positive change and allowing young people to reach their full potential. She is also trained in counselling skills with a Certificate in Counselling from the University of Abertay.
